So I?ve finished my mentoring with Troy Dean — and it was awesome. Was there ever any doubt? I learned so much. On top of that he gave me a much needed boost of confidence that I can make this work.
We had eight total sessions and I pretty much had homework from each of them. The homework was completely practical, relevant, and manageable — but not easy. It required a lot of thought on my part. But in the end it was all so very helpful in moving me to the next stage of thinking about my business. The most useful take-away that I am going to work on is how to do market research. Deciding on a niche is a challenge for me, and one I still may not have conquered. But Troy gave me the tools I need to help make that determination and find something that will work for me long term. I may not be there yet, but I know how to get there. No one can do that work but me.
The other big take away for me was a content strategy. That sounds so scary when you say it out loud. But Troy had a way of making it very easy, especially in getting over that ginormous hump of the first step. Once I got past that, it’s a very clear process to take it as far as it needs to go, all I have to do is follow through. I have several steps to work on in the next 30 days, and fleshing out this content strategy is a large part of that. It’s something I’ve been thinking about, and most likely over-thinking, for some time — but now I’m looking forward to it!
I believe I?ll be talking with Troy and Matt (you know, the one who got this whole thing started) this week as a follow up. I?m curious to hear what they?ll say, what questions they?ll ask, and maybe what advice or next steps comes from it. Of course I?m somewhat sad that this is ending, but I?m excited to put it into practice and — as Troy would say — go elevate!
Glad you got the opportunity to work with Troy. I sort of fell into WPE from buying a User Video Manuals deal last December. Just the few things I’ve gleaned from a few webinars in that short time caused me to revamp my entire business.
Good luck and I hope to join you in the WPE forums soon…
