So I’ve been working with Troy Dean for a few weeks now, and it’s going great. While I’ve had homework from every single session it hasn’t been overwhelming. That could be in part because I’ve been thinking about the same topics for several months now. I’ve been through some excellent courses in branding and marketing, but it’s darn helpful to have the specific perspective, and expertise, of doing it for a WordPress consultant rather than just some generic “small business.” I can’t thank Troy enough for the opportunity.
It’s quite stunning actually that as we started our mentoring sessions he asked me to pinpoint a specific target market. Not really having a specific audience in mind, I pulled from my experience with clients and proposals. Well as it turns out, I’ve now got a hot prospect in that space. Really, really glad that I’ve been forced to think in through. So far it’s been going well, but I’ve not got the job yet. And of course once I do get it, there’s still more work to be done.
That’s what’s really encouraging from my perspective. I’m not really getting excited about any of this. It’s just one step at a time, and one step leads to another. Troy’s been instrumental in getting me to focus on the process and not the milestones or outcome. (And he was having that influence long before we started our mentoring sessions.) Getting the process sorted is what will make the business stable and profitable. Well, it will be one of the things that help at least.
One of the tasks I will do when we are done, with Troy’s permission of course, is to summarize the steps he’s put me through. I’ll do it just so I remember if nothing else, because it’s a solid process that bears repeating on a regular basis. And I need to join his WP Elevation community as well. This is not something that’s a “one and done.” I need to make an ongoing commitment to keeping at it. You should look into it too and join me there. So much good stuff!
